To the best of our knowledge, the Fox Trot is the only 5K in Wisconsin exclusively for kids. There are lots of "fun runs" for kids, usually 1/2 - 1 mile, and there are lots of longer road races where kids can run among a crowd of adults, but nothing quite like the Fox Trot!
The Fox Trot is also unique because:
* It is big! Around 250 runners each year.
* It is co-sponsored by Bellin's Kids for Running program, which prepares kids to participate in the Bellin 10K Run. The Fox Trot is a good training event for the kids, one week before the Bellin, helping them understand the dynamics of starting line crowds and adrenaline, long distance pacing, weather factors, and so on.
* There is always a special runner on hand for autographs, warm-up, and racing tips. We have featured: high school distance standouts; Roy Pirrung, a USA Track & Field ultra runner of the year and winner of dozens of national and world age division championships; UW-Green Bay Phoenix cross country runners; Carol Legate, a Cellcom Green Bay Marathon winner and Olympic marathon trials runner.
* It is loads of FUN! Awards, music, door prizes, A&W treats, goody bags, cool water bottles and tee shirts, and a big crowd of cheering spectators. If you can't enjoy THIS run, you'd better hang up those running shoes!
* The Fox Trot is officially sanctioned by USA Track & Field,
one of the nation's largest and most respected organizations
for runners, including track, road racing, and cross country.
Distance Demons members have done well at USATF state,
regional, and national races.
